A remake of the original script of the masterpiece period drama directed by Akira Kurosawa and starring Toshiro Mifune, which has gone down in Japanese film history. When a group of young samurai discovers the corruption of a high-ranking official, they stand together with a ronin to stop the plot. Yuji Oda was selected as the main character Sanjuro, and Etsushi Toyokawa as his rival Hanbei Muroto. The director's attention to detail in the dynamic performances, and the use of colors that could not be achieved in black-and-white, resulted in the successful creation of a 21st-century version of "Sanjuro”.The film was a hot topic as it was director Morita's first attempt at a period drama.
