A woman who has reached the right age and is in a hurry to get married turns a colleague into her lover in order to deceive her mother, but the couple ends up getting married anyway. The film tells the human story of a mother and daughter and the people around them as they face the big decision of marriage, while incorporating the characterization of Yasujiro Ozu's masterpiece "Late Autumn". Yuki Saito plays the realist daughter, and Yoshiko Mita plays her mother, a beautiful widow.
The film was taken in full-screen aspect ratios for the first time since the family game.
